Hydration is essential…especially in the summer months. Thankfully we keep this concentrate on hand for a refreshing electrolyte replenishment that tastes like a treat!
Drinking water plays an important role in staying hydrated, but it doesn’t replace everything you may be losing (especially from sweat). This lemonade is a refreshing and nutritious way to keep hydrated & great replacement for sports drinks. The concentrated form allows you to bring a single container along and refill your bottle with water and just a bit of concentrate each time. It also allows you to adjust the flavor/strength to your liking.
LEMON JUICE:
Fresh lemon juice is best, but bottled will work as well. It is high in vitamin C, aids in fat metabolism, supports & stimulates the digestive system. Lemon juice encourages detoxification throughout the body improves the absorption of iron from plant sources.
Don’t let you peels go to waste after juicing, make this cleaning concentrate with them!
UNREFINED SEA SALT:
Contrary to popular belief, your body need salt to stay hydrated. Put simply, water follows salt. Sodium within the cell acts like a magnet, drawing water in. Water will not enter the cell without adequate sodium on the inside, causing dehydration on a cellular level.
Sweating causes the loss of both water and electrolytes, one of which is sodium. It is common belief that drinking water will keep you hydrated, but in fact it doesn’t help much unless you have adequate sodium encouraging your cells to hang on to the water you are drinking. More often than not, you just increase urination resulting in a ‘flush’ of the system instead of hydration of the cells.
The consumption of electrolytes along with water is the optimal way to hydrate your cells which is why almost all sports or recovery beverages contains sodium. Using an unrefined sea salt balances electrolytes, contains essential minerals, helps maintain hydration & fluid balance, and helps to reduce muscle cramps. This one is my favorite.
RAW HONEY:
Contains antioxidants & essential nutrients, supports immune & digestive systems, has anti-inflammatory properties. Check out your local farmer’s market to pick up honey from your area and support local beekeepers.
To serve: Mix 1 part concentrate to 6-8 parts water or sparking water.
Try adding mint, ginger, basil, cucumber or other citrus juices to mix it up. Using hot water makes a delicious hot lemon drink as well.
