Another one of my favorite sauces for you! This teriyaki sauce goes great in stir-fry, on veggies, or as a marinade. And the best part is that it can be made in as little as 10 minutes.
Choosing good quality ingredients is important in any recipe. The soy sauce in this one can bring a few or a lot of extra ingredients. Take a peek at the labels before selecting one. I’ve found varieties with anywhere from 5-10 items listed. Things like soy, salt, water, yeast (or brewing starter) are common in most brands. However, you may find additional items like colorings, fillers, or preservatives in some of the options. Checking the labels to see which ingredients are common and which seem to be ‘extras’ is a good habit no matter what you are shopping for. This simple action can be your first step toward shopping and eating mindfully.
Fresh garlic and ginger provide the best flavor (and more nutrients), but powdered spices can be used in this recipe as well. The combination of garlic and ginger in this sauce provide a level of anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immune boosting benefits.
Although this can conveniently be made in a few minutes while the rest of your meal is cooking, having a jar of it on hand is even better. Preserving this recipe only requires mason jars and a large pot of boiling water (or electric pressure canner like this one). To can it, fill your jars with the hot teriyaki sauce leaving 1 1/2″ headspace. Wipe the rims of your jars with white vinegar then apply lids and rings and tighten until finger tight. Place jars of sauce into the pot of boiling water, ensuring they are fully submereged. Allow them to boil for 20 minutes. When the time is up, remove the jars and leave them to cool for 24 hours. If you are using an electric pressure canner like mine, follow the instructions in the manual for water bath canning.
Need a quick and easy meal? Grab a jar of canned meat and a jar of teriyaki sauce from the pantry. Simply mix the two in a pan as they are heated and add some veggies if you wish. Serve with rice or noodles and you’ll have your very own teriyaki takeout copycat with minimal effort and cost.

Teriyaki Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1/2 tsp ginger fresh, grated
- 1/2 tsp garlic fresh, minced
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a saucepan.
- Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Allow to simmer for 4-5 minutes.
Notes
Add a slurry of 2 tbsp cornstarch + 1/4 cup water after the cooking time.
After adding the slurry, continue cooking for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently. If using powdered ginger and garlic, reduce to half the amount.
Teriyaki Sauce – Large Batch
Ingredients
- 8 cups water
- 2 cups soy sauce
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1 cup honey
- 1½ tbsp ginger fresh, grated
- 1½ tbsp garlic fresh, minced
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a saucepan.
- Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Allow to simmer for 4-5 minutes.
- Fill pint jars to 1 1/2” headspace with hot teriyaki sauce.
- Wipe rims with vinegar, place lids and tighten finger tight.
- Water bath jars for 20 minutes.
- Remove jars from bath and allow to cool completely. Once cool, remove rings for storage.
Notes
- If using powdered ginger and garlic, reduce to half the amount.
